Haoyue Kuang

Singer/Songwriter
Los Angeles
Brought up in a small town of mainland China, Hao-Yue’s musical journey winded its way across south-west China, leading her to Shanghai and eventually Los Angeles. She began as the musical talent of her campus, winning numerous regional singing competitions, organizing choirs, and helping set up musical productions. Her decision to embrace the professional music industry came in 2010, when she left her country to fly alone to California.

Attending the Musicians Institute was her doorway to America and her first step as a professional musician. The school provided her with a fundamental skill-set as a singer/songwriter… and time to adjust to a brand new world. From her first performance workshop, to recording demos in professional studios; Hao-Yue grew from a shy but soulful singer, to a mature R&B/Jazz artist. She now writes and produces her own songs for both herself and many other singers/songwriters.

Since her graduation, Hao-Yue has constantly been attending music conventions and actively looking for new opportunities. She met the well-established film/TV composer Matt Hirt, from whom she earned her first paycheck as a co-writer/singer, and developed a long lasting partnership in film/TV music writing. Increasingly hired as a collaborator and session singer, Hao-Yue has constantly been developing her own personal vision. 2013 will be a milestone for Hao-Yue with the planned issue of her very first album. The album is infused with all the bittersweet experiences of three years as a foreign student in the US. Her music will tell you the story of an Asian American woman, who struggles on the path of self-discovery, overcoming the constant hardships of cultural conflicts.
