Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo, is a Grammy winning musician/DJ/producer. In 2004, Diplo debuted his album, Florida. Receiving praise within the underground community, Florida caught the attention of XL Recording’s newest act, M.I.A., who partnered with Pentz to release mixtape, Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. 1. It boosted Diplo’s reputation as a scene-spotter, championing the mongrel pop of the global underclass to the speakers of American clubs. Diplo would continue to work with M.I.A., eventually creating the Grammy nominated track “Paper Planes” in 2007, which hit #4 on the Hot 100 Charts and sold more than 3 million copies. Diplo founded label Mad Decent to serve as a showcasing. The early release of Brazilian group Bonde do Role helped define Baile Funk in America. Mad Decent has gone on to release music from a dynamic range of artists that include Santigold, Peter Bjorn & John, Rusko, Lil’ Jon, Gucci Mane, Dillon Francis, Major Lazer and more. Diplo has produced the annual Mad Decent block parties – a series of free outdoor concerts in many cities. In 2012, following up on his 2011 Grammy nomination for his production on Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” Diplo keeps securing credits with Justin Bieber, Shakira, Lil Wayne, No Doubt, Bruno Mars, Santigold, Azealia Banks, Robyn, Usher, Beyonce and Snoop Dogg. Additional collaboration and remix credits include Tiesto, Skrillex, Beck, Radiohead, Laidback Luke, La Roux, Kelly Rowland, Britney Spears, Sleigh Bells, T.I., Lil Jon, Dillon Francis, Sia, Die Antwoord, and Das Racist. Additionally, he has a successful project called Major Lazer, most notably known for its hit single “Pon De Floor.” Diplo also released a new book, 128 Beats Per Minute, which illustrates the cultures and scenes from his daily global journeys.
