Eric Priest is an intellectual property attorney, a professor at the University of Oregon School of Law specializing in digital copyright and the global entertainment industries, and a pop and R&B producer and songwriter for nearly two decades with top ten hits for artists such as Sweden’s Clubland and Norway’s Jan Werner. His music industry career has spanned the U.S., Europe, and Asia. His experience in the Chinese music industry dates back to 1999, when he was an A&R consultant in Beijing to Rock Records, the then-largest pop-rock label in Greater China. He is fluent in Mandarin, and has worked on several projects in China as a songwriter and producer, most recently composing and producing the theme song for the Chinese television drama series Emotional Barcelona. Previously, Eric was an intellectual property associate at Dorsey & Whitney LLP and CEO of a Beijing-based start-up, founded at Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society, focused on licensing digital music and video rights in China. He regularly speaks on digital copyright issues, and is frequently quoted in the Wall Street Journal and other international media on copyright enforcement and the entertainment industries in China. He holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota.
