CEO & Founder - SONGS Music Publishing

Matt Pincus is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SONGS Music Publishing, a music publishing firm located in New York, Los Angeles and London.  A wholly employee-owned enterprise, SONGS brings a long-term ownership oriented perspective, leading-edge practices, and a client service mentality to the traditional music publishing business. Under Matt’s leadership, SONGS has grown from its inception in 2004 to represent over 300 songwriters across all genres.  SONGS’ substantial growth has been organic and bottom up, through the signing of worldwide, exclusive co-publishing agreements with individual writers and, more recently, through catalog acquisitions. SONGS Music Publishing’s writers include Diplo, Devin Tailes, Marsha Ambrosius, Brian Lee, Matt Thiessen, Q-Tip, Morgan Kibby, Conor Oberst and Jose Gonzalez. Through Mighty Seven Songs and Mom and Pop Music Publishing (joint ventures with Crush Management and Q Prime Management, respectively), SONGS publishes and administers JT Harding (“Somewhere with You,” “Alone With You”) and Sleigh Bells.  SONGS operates in Nashville through Patrick Joseph Music, in partnership with legendary Nashville executive Pat Higdon. SONGS also publishes and administers a 50% share of the Pharrell Williams catalog, and publishes and administers a variety of catalogs including those of EPMD, Living Colour, Das EFX and Stryper. Before founding SONGS, Matt was a Strategy Associate at EMI Group, PLC, one of the four major global music companies.  Prior to that, Matt founded Some Records, an independent record label, and was a writer and Assistant Editor at New York Magazine. Previously, he was a member of the influential New York hardcore band Judge. In 2002, Matt graduated from Columbia Business School with an MBA.  In 1995, he graduated with a BA in English from Columbia College at Columbia University.  Matt is currently a member of the Board of Directors of both the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and ASCAP.
